中尼邊境冰川崩塌釀浩劫 死傷慘重、數千人下落不明


喜馬拉雅山區再度傳出重大天然災害。8月26日上午,中國西藏與尼泊爾交界地區發生大規模冰川崩塌,巨量冰雪與岩石高速衝入河谷,隨後形成猛烈山洪與泥石流,沿河村莊、道路、橋樑及邊境設施在極短時間內遭到摧毀。這場災難已成為尼泊爾近年最嚴重的天然災害之一。

截至8月28日,各方公布的傷亡數字仍在快速變化。路透社報導,尼泊爾至少已有579人死亡,中國西藏方面亦有死亡報告,約2,500人仍然失蹤;美聯社則報導死亡人數已接近600人。由於許多災區交通中斷,加上泥石流掩埋範圍廣大,最終傷亡人數恐怕仍會上升。

這次災害並不是單純的「雪崩」。初步分析指出,喜馬拉雅山一處冰川下端突然崩塌,大量冰塊、岩石及泥沙沿山谷傾瀉而下,形成高速土石洪流,部分地區的泥石流速度估計一度達到每秒約50公尺。洪水一路衝擊中尼邊境重要通道,包括西藏吉隆口岸,並向尼泊爾境內河谷擴散。

災難發生後,中國與尼泊爾均投入大批救援人員、軍警、直升機及重型機械搜尋失蹤者。然而道路及橋樑大量被沖毀,加上山區天候多變,新的堰塞湖及冰川湖又存在潰決風險,使搜救工作格外艱難。救援人員抵達部分重災區時,只看到大片廢墟與被泥沙掩埋的建築。

更令人憂心的是,失蹤人口中包括大量外國遊客、登山客、勞工以及前往西藏岡仁波齊一帶朝聖的旅客。多個國家的家庭正在焦急等待消息,這場原本發生在偏遠喜馬拉雅山區的災難,已迅速成為一場受到全球關注的人道危機。

喜馬拉雅山孕育了亞洲許多重要河流,也是一個極為脆弱的高山生態系統。近年全球氣候升溫,使冰川融化速度加快,冰川湖與山體不穩定的風險也日益受到科學界重視。這次中尼邊境的巨大災難,再一次提醒世人:氣候變遷已不只是環境問題,而是直接威脅人類生命、城市與基礎建設的安全問題。 

面對如此慘重的傷亡,我們向所有遇難者致以深切哀悼,也期待中國、尼泊爾以及國際救援力量能夠跨越國界,全力尋找仍然失蹤的人員

Deadly Avalanche Disaster Along the China–Nepal Border

A major natural disaster has struck the Himalayan region along the China–Nepal border. A massive collapse of ice, snow, rock, and debris triggered destructive flooding and mudslides through mountain valleys, causing heavy casualties and widespread damage.

Entire villages, roads, bridges, and border facilities were reportedly damaged or destroyed within a short period of time. Rescue teams from both China and Nepal have been dispatched to the affected areas, but difficult terrain, blocked roads, unstable mountains, and continuing weather risks have made rescue operations extremely challenging.

The number of dead, injured, and missing continues to change as emergency teams reach isolated communities. Many people remain unaccounted for, and authorities fear that the final casualty toll could rise as more remote areas are searched.

The disaster was not simply an ordinary avalanche. Initial reports indicate that a large section of glacier and mountain material collapsed into the valley, sending a powerful mixture of ice, rocks, mud, and floodwater downstream. The force of the disaster swept away infrastructure and left large areas buried beneath debris.

China and Nepal have mobilized rescue workers, police, military personnel, helicopters, and heavy equipment to search for survivors. However, damaged transportation routes and the possibility of additional landslides or flooding continue to threaten both local residents and rescue crews.

The Himalayan region is one of the most environmentally fragile areas in the world. Rising temperatures and rapidly changing mountain conditions have increased concerns about melting glaciers, unstable slopes, and the growing danger of glacial lake floods and landslides.

This tragedy is another reminder that climate-related disasters can cross national borders without warning. They threaten not only the environment, but also human lives, communities, transportation systems, and economic development.

At this difficult moment, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and our prayers to those who are still missing or injured.

China, Nepal, and the international community must continue working together to support rescue operations, provide humanitarian assistance, and help affected communities rebuild.

Natural disasters recognize no national borders. Human compassion and rescue efforts should have no borders either.
